Jujurha Preschool has a new vice-principal and the BI has a new volunteer

We are delighted to announce that Funeka Jija (left) has been appointed the vice principal of the Jujurha Preschool. She is the Grade R teacher and a skilled presenter of our community workshops. Funeka’s appointment is in line with the long term plan to make the Jujurha Education Centre sustainable and we are confident that she will apply her experience and creative ideas to this new challenge.

Kate Rice is a very welcome addition to the BI team. She comes from Toronto, Canada, and will spend a year living and working in Nqileni village. She is a medical anthropologist and will be doing research for her doctorate when not assisting with the education programmes, including computer lessons for the BI staff.

    Hi Kate,
Wonderful to hear that a fellow Torontonian gets to partake in the beauty of the Bulungula community. Hope you have a fabulous year. I was a brief visitor in 2009 (along with my husband and two kids) and we long to return. Feel free to get in touch when you come home, I am a midwife and am just completing an MSc in Public Health (med anthro has been part of my studies). Would love to learn about your life there. Good luck and enjoy.

      Hi Kelly,

Lovely to hear from you! Too bad our visits to Bulungula have not overlapped; I would be very interested to hear more about your own work, and of course to catch up with a fellow Torontonian! I will certainly get in touch when I am back in Toronto, although that won’t be until March of next year. All the best to you and your family.
