Health in Pregnancy

Our work here aims to improve child health and development, maternal health and birth outcomes.  Our Home-Based Carers visit and assist pregnant mothers with nutrition (breastfeeding, introduction of solids and household economics), address malnutrition, do growth monitoring, weight and height measurements, child health, antenatal and postnatal care of the mother and child as well as counseling.   Nutrition is supplemented from our organic community gardens and our Home-Based Carers have also been trained to identify health issues that should be referred to a clinic.

Our Home-Based Carers have been trained in the Mentor Mothers Programme which is part of the Philani outreach programme.
