The Bulungula Incubator was invited by Bhekisisa Centre for Health Journalism to be part of a group of 10 different organisations (amandla.mobi, Africa Health Research Institute and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Ezintsha @Wits University, Rural Health Advocacy Project, Wits Reproductive Health & HIV Institute, NICD, Cancer Alliance, SAHPRA, Health Justice Initiative) to attend an op-ed training workshop and write a focused article on the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill.

We have steadily built our health programme the last ten years, which includes a health point, home-based care team and a strong partnership with the South African government’s health department.

Today, we published our op-ed piece on the three key lessons we have learned to improve the health of our community and how our health system could be a model for the NHI in rural South Africa.
