At the end of last year, Eh!Woza came to Bulungula to host a 10-day documentary workshop for young people in our community. It was an incredibly fun and different experience for our young people, who have had very little exposure to this kind of training and technology in our deeply rural area. It’s inspiring for us to watch these videos that they researched, filmed, and produced from their perspective. We are excited to welcome back Eh!Woza again!

Below is a newsletter from Eh!Woza on the 13th of August:
In late 2024, Eh!woza visited the Xhora Mouth region in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, to run a 10-day Learner Doccies pilot programme with young adults from the community. This was in collaboration with the local organisation Bulungula Incubator. During the workshops, participants produced four short films that reflect authentic insights into the community, drawing on lived experience and local knowledge. We learnt a lot about the challenges facing rural healthcare and livelihoods, with few programmes reaching these areas.
Together, the films give a glimpse into how young people in Xhora Mouth are engaging with social issues affecting their lives and the community at large, from health and care to safety and access. The films have been screened locally in the region and Khayelitsha, reaching a larger audience and encouraging further dialogue. A big thank you to the Bulungula Incubator for facilitating this work.
The following short documentary films showcase the voices and stories that emerged from the pilot programme
