In August, Mzuzile Mhlola, who was previously an Assistant Health Programme Manager, took up the exciting task of setting up a new “Vibrant Villages” programme for the Bulungula Incubator. After 10 years, the Bulungula Incubator has made large strides across our ‘From Conception to Career” development strategy bringing access to quality services in Education, Health, Sustainable Livelihoods and Basic Services. However, much of what weighs on the youth in under-resourced communities in our country is not just a lack of access to decent education and health facilities but also the dearth of opportunity for the kind of stimulation and excitement that comes from participating in creative, cultural, heritage, and sporting programmes. We believe that opportunities for self-expression are crucial ingredients in the creation of vibrant and sustainable communities. The Bulungula Radio Project is our newest project in this ‘Vibrant Villages’ programme area. Mzuzile has turned out to be a natural DJ talent! He has been creating much excitement with his great music content and lively radio presence. From the top of Nqileni Village, at the old Community Hall that we built in 2008, we can broadcast to all of the Xhora Mouth Administrative Area. The daily weather reports, theme music slots, and interviews are very popular. Mzu has been developing content from all the BI programme areas and will have regular weekly slots with discussion topics like: “The Importance of Early Childhood Care and Education”, “You Are Your Child’s First Teacher”, “Towards Zero-stunting”, “Excellent Small-scale Farming”, “Developing our Sports Leagues for young men and women”, “Developing a Healthy Lifestyle”, “Health in Pregnancy”. DJ Mzu, in the hhhhoooooouuuuuuuuuuusssssseeeeee!!!
