Last September the Bulungula Incubator began work on opening a Health Point in Xhora Mouth that could serve as a centralized location for distributing ARV’s and providing HIV testing to the community. With a plot of land and a hut donated from Folokwe Village the BI set to work fixing up the hut, installing a water reservoir and toilet, and building a roofed area to serve as a waiting area for patients.
Thanks to resources from the Community Work Program and coordinating with Madwaleni Hospital, the Health Point finally opened at the end of June. Health workers from Madwaleni distributed medication to dozens of patients eager to make use of the new outpost.
The Health Point is now operating every Tuesday and is a prime location for HIV support groups and to serve as a venue for mobile clinics. The BI is working together with the Department of Health to facilitate the training of a local Health Care worker to manage the Health Point so it can operate five days a week and provide basic healthcare services.
