The civil servants’ strike has closed down all education at No ofisi SPS and other rural schools in surrounding villages. Children have been wandering around aimlessly for weeks and, although we have continued to offer our After School Enrichment Programmes at the Jujurha Education Centre, very few children have attended. The few children who have visited the library have enjoyed games and lego as well as browsing through the books and magazines. Storytime is always a highlight as well as the outdoor play area – the new swings are a great favourite! Our concern is that, in villages where school attendance is erratic at the best of times, the effects of the prolonged strike will be felt long after the strike has officially ended.
